no greater JOY

“I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.”

3 John 1:4

On Sunday, Addi and I spent most of the day at the ER wondering if she had appendicitis.  Thankfully, she did not, however she does have mesenteric adenitis, which is basically a fancy word for an infection of the lymph nodes in her belly.  Needless to say she was in a crazy amount of pain.  Any mother knows that watching her child suffer is probably one of the most difficult things to do.  There were a couple of moments where I just wanted to scream, “somebody just GIVE her something to take away this pain!”

On the flip side of that same coin, I have no greater joy than to see my child walk with the Lord.  The fruit this trial has produced in her heart is encouraging to see.  The day after her stent in the hospital, she sat down and wrote a little devotion I wanted to share with you today.  I didn’t help her with this or instruct her to do it and she found the verse on her own accord.  Here it is exactly as she wrote it, untouched and raw…

Love

By: Addi Joy

“And the second is like, namely this, thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.  There is non other commandment greater than these.”

Mark 12:31

What is a part of the inside of your heart? We should be kind, loving, and caring for the people who are different.  Not only them but everyone even your enemies.  It’s hard but we can do it.  If you have God it will be easier to love.  You can love or not love.  If you don’t love your life will be worse.  It’s an easy choice to love or not.

I am blown away by the fruit I see in her little life and want to encourage all of the mothers out there to keep pressing on.  There are long days and nights, a lot of thankless tasks, a crazy amount of pain and joy all mingled together to make motherhood what it is.  You are making a difference in these little souls! Don’t miss one tiny moment to press in more toward what God has for you and your child.  Perhaps you are a believer without children of your own.  I would venture to guess you have your own “children” by mentorship.  Those are the children John is referencing in the above verse.  Keep pressing on into those lives, the lives of those who don’t yet know Christ, or those younger than you in faith.  We all have “children” we can pour into and I am telling you, there is no greater joy in life than to see them walking in truth.
