burning hearts

“And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed. Then Moses said, ‘I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn.’

So when the LORD saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him…”

Exodus 3:2-4a

Moses was just about to have his mind blown by God.There he stood on the edge of receiving his life mission.  All the events in his life led him to this big moment, and he could have very easily missed it.

This was probably an oridinary day for Moses, a day when he woke up and did the same thing he had been doing the days leading up to it.  He had most likely walked past this same bush many times before.  Today it was burning with fire.  Moses could have seen the bush burning and continued walking.  But, it was in turning aside to LOOK he heard the voice of God call to him. It was when he took the second look, past the glance that then Moses heard from the Lord. He then received his life mission to bring God’s people from bondage to freedom.

Today could be a very ordinary day for you too.  You just continue each day to wake up and do the work God calls you to in faithfulness to Him.  Good job! Keep continuing to be faithful! The danger can be though, that we get so caught up in the day to day of life that we miss our overall calling.  Having a calling in life brings purpose to even the tiniest, most simple moments.

Each of us have sparks inside our hearts placed there by our Creator. Think with me for a second.  What are your passions? What are your interests? What conversations get you fired up? What experiences do you bring to the table? What makes you uniquely YOU?

Some of us may have sparks, others roaring fires, and I wonder if the application is the same for us today. We too must look past the initial glance of those things to take a second look, to ponder what these sparks are and why God has placed them there.  In doing this I wonder if God might stir up a little calling within our hearts that would bring many people from bondage into freedom.

Take the second glance at those longings, look them hard in the face and hear God calling to YOU.  NO matter your age, your resources or if you have been doing the same darn thing everyday for your entire life.  God wants to use YOU.  Let Him turn the spark of your calling into a roaring flame.  Then shine that little light of yours for the whole world to see.
