We have been home from our Hawaiian getaway for a couple of weeks now and I finally have the video to share. This trip had been in the works for several years as we have hoped to rally my entire side of the family together for a week in Maui! It is tough coordinating 15 people’s schedules, especially with a school counselor and NBA coach in the mix. Even still, Leah and Griffin had to go a little early and leave before the rest of us because of work. 😦
This was not my girls first trip to Hawaii, although it was Harper’s first to Maui. Dustin and I both have a special place in our hearts for Maui as both of us grew up vacationing with our families on these beaches. To us it feels a lot like a home away from home. We have our restaurants and go-to activities and we easily settle into a groove there. In large part this is why we don’t vacation many other places! It’s perfect for us homebodies: familiar, relaxing, and a whole lot of beachy vibes. Our absolute favorite.
We typically stay along Ka’anapali Beach, although this was our first time vacationing at the Hyatt. To say we loved it would be an understatement. It’s the very last resort along the walk to Whaler’s Village (a popular shopping area with outdoor music and fun restaurants). Because of it’s proximity on the walkway it gives it a secluded feel, but you are a only few minutes walk to all the “touristy” activity. The girls loved the 3 waterslides at the resort and the two kid friendly play areas as well.
For the first two nights we stayed on the hotel side, while the last 5 were spent at what they call the “Residence Club”, a place that offers vacation ownership. We stayed in a beautiful 3 bedroom villa with views overlooking the ocean. It was gorgeous. When we vacation as a family we try to avoid standard hotel rooms as this leaves Dustin and I stumbling around in a dark room once the kids are asleep. It’s much more beneficial for us to have some living space where we can go read and relax once the girls are asleep. Can I get an amen?!
This vlog might seem a little dull to some as our days were not packed with activities. We purposely made it that way. Our focus was to spend as much time as we could together, lounging around the pool and beach, while remaining close to the resort for naps for the littles.
I’ll be honest, this video was tough to make. Not only because of all my computer glitches over the last couple of weeks…grrr technology…but also because I don’t know when we will be back. My heart yearns for this place in a way that is similar to the way my heart yearns for home when I’ve been away too long. Maui no ka oi! (Maui- you are the best!)
